I'm always very weird about talking about my art. In my mind, I don't make art very regularly - despite painting miniature, tattooing, drawing, painting, and other things. I guess what I'm really saying is, I don't make art that isn't work or miniature-related very often; but I'm hoping to change that.
There are a lot of really incredible artists out there, and I'm lucky to be friends with some of the people that I look up to the most. But I don't consider myself very talented, or especially knowledgeable when it comes to art, or especially digital painting. That said, I was able to squeeze this painting out of my head after literally hours of lamenting that I cannot make art.
This piece depicts a lone adventurer, sword sheathed and torch alight over their head, standing in a forest of tall, thin trees, face to face with a massive statue of a human head sunken into the fog. I was inspired by a few artists; most heavily the art of the tabletop RPG Symbaroum, published by Free League (surprise!). The dark, mysterious atmosphere is so wonderful to me, and the threat of some ancient doom upon a lone adventurer brings this feeling of dread and anticipation of what will come next.
I had a really great time making this painting and I'm looking forward to making more. I hope you enjoy it as well!
That's beautiful! I hope you take more opportunities for painting just to paint!
