So for awhile now I've been looking forward to making some solo Age of Sigmar battle reports, focusing on three heroes of Anvilgard attempting to find a way to fight against the forces of Morathi after she razed the great City of Scales. This is the first chronicle of many where I will dive into these characters, their histories, and their adventures.
My intention is to first explore the history of these characters and give you (and me!) a chance to know these characters. After that, we will explore their narrative with some customized rules for solo Age of Sigmar battles. For those curious, I'll be using the solo rules presented in issue 458 of White Dwarf (November 2020), though I'll be amending some rules to make our campaign a little longer, as well as some lasting injuries from Warcry, and perhaps a few custom rules as we go along. I hope you're excited, because I certainly am!
With that out of the way, let's meet our first hero: Khailagora Brimborn!
Born some 3,000 years prior to the Fall of Anvilgard, Khailagora has lived a life of passion and ambition. From an early age she showed a magical aptitude that secured her place within the vast armies of the City of Scales. Though Khailagora had wanted to enlist as soon as she had reached a proper age just as her mother and father had done, she was instead enrolled in the magical academy of Anvilgard, learning the secrets of the realm of fire and studying the winds of magic in order to master them and better serve her home. Khailagora excelled in her class, displaying both discipline and talent.
After several hundred years of study, she was finally enlisted in the armies of Anvilgard. Ready to serve her city and protect the realm of Aqshy, as well as prove her superiority amongst her peers, she volunteered for the hardest assignment she could find — an outpost within the toxic jungles of Aqshy which had been overtaken by beastmen. It was a dangerous assignment, but Khailagora had resolved to lead the excursion and reclaim the post.
Now at the head of a force of Darkshards, Dreadspears, and a small battalion of Drakespawn knights, Khailagora was right where she wanted to be — leading a detachment of loyal Anvilgard warriors in a front against the ravenous greatfray which ruled the vast jungles of Aqshy. She thrived off of the adrenaline, and was ever eager to push herself and her troops into more dangerous territory. To her delight, it only encouraged those under her command to fight harder, reveling in the glory of war.
When at last Khailagora came upon the beastmen, the battle was fast and furious. Darkshards unleashed hundreds of bolts from their crossbows while Dreadspears bloodied their polearms impaling ungors and gors by the dozens. The armored knights on their Drakespawn circled the beastmen, rending through the armor of the Bestigor while completing a devastating flank, all while Khailagora weaved the magic of Aqshy into devastating offensive spells. The beastmen attempted to abandon the outpost and flee for the safety of their herdstone, but under Khailagora's command they were rode down, killed to the last ungor. It was a victory that cemented Khailagora's rise to power within the Army of Anvilgard, and would have had her seated upon a legendary Black Dragon, were it not for an unexpected turn of events involving a captain of the Black Ark Malerion's Dread, the pirate Malus Brimborn — Khailagora's twin brother.
That's it for today's post! Make sure to sign up for notifications or follow me on Twitter so you can be among the first to read about our next hero: Malus Brimborn!
Also, I have been playing lots of Valheim lately over on Twtich (twitch.tv/HeyGMKenny) so if you'd like to come hang out, talk about Age of Sigmar and vibe out to some Viking survival, you're certainly welcome!
Thanks for reading and I'll see you soon!
